WHAT TO DO

  • Vacuum, sweep, or drymop your hardwood floor regularly
  • Remove spills promptly.  When a wet spill occurs, soak up the liquid promptly. Mist the affected area with Bona Floor Cleaner and clean with your mop or a clean, soft cloth.  Use a vacuum or broom for dry spills and abrasives.
  • Place mats at exterior doors to trap sand and grit from incoming traffic.
  • Use area rugs on high traffic pathways and pivot areas: at ends of steps, near doorways etc.  All rugs should allow floors to breathe.  Avoid rubber backed or non-ventilated rugs.
  • Install floor guards on the “feet” of furniture, especially chairs.
  • Maintain the relative humidity in your home between 30% and 60%.  Excessive humidity can cause wood fibers to swell resulting in cupping on the face of the material and cracks in the wood and the finish. Low humidity will cause shrinking of the material, slight crowning on the face the boards, inconsistent gapping and spacing throughout the wood floor.
  • Renew a worn surface with a new screen and recoat polyurethane finish before the wood is exposed.
